Essential Oil Safety

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that offer many wellness benefits, but must be used responsibly. They are for external use only unless supervised by a certified aromatherapist or licensed healthcare professional. Sales representatives are not qualified to offer internal use advice.

Note: Ingesting essential oils is not a sign of purity or quality. It is a safety concern best discussed with a trained expert.

Usage Safety

  • Do not ingest essential oils.

  • Keep away from eyes, ears, mucous membranes, and body openings.

  • Never apply undiluted oils directly to the skin—always dilute.

  • Do not mix essential oils into regular skincare or personal care products without proper formulation knowledge.

  • Avoid using essential oils in heated warmers or near direct sunlight.

  • Store in dark glass containers, tightly sealed, away from light and heat.

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Dilution Guidelines

Group Dilution Ratio
Healthy Adults 1–4 drops per teaspoon of carrier oil
Seniors 1 drop per 2 teaspoons of carrier oil
Pregnant Women 1 drop per 2 teaspoons of carrier oil
Children (2+ years) 1 drop per 2 teaspoons of carrier oil

Inhalation Safety

Use diffusers in well-ventilated rooms.

Avoid inhaling oils directly from the bottle.

Do not diffuse essential oils near infants, pets, or those with respiratory sensitivities.

Pregnancy, Nursing & Children

Consult a healthcare provider before using essential oils while pregnant or breastfeeding. Use only child-safe oils and apply at significantly reduced dilutions.

Photosensitivity Warning

Some essential oils increase your skin’s sensitivity to UV light. Avoid direct sun or tanning exposure for at least 12 hours after applying these oils topically: Bergamot (unless labeled bergaptene-free), Lemon, Lime, Orange, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Tangerine, Angelica Root, Rue, Cumin, Cinnamon, Thyme, Peppermint, Tea Tree

In Case of Accidents

If oil gets in the eyes, flush with milk or a carrier oil, not water.

If skin irritation occurs, apply a carrier oil to dilute and calm the area.

If ingested accidentally, contact Poison Control immediately.

Do not induce vomiting unless instructed.

Storage Safety

Always store oils in dark glass bottles with tightly sealed lids.

Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and open flames.

Do not store essential oils in plastic or Styrofoam containers.

Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Listen to Your Body

Discontinue use if you experience skin irritation, headaches, nausea, or any other discomfort. Consult a medical professional or certified aromatherapist if unsure. Respect the potency of essential oils. With safe practices, they can be powerful tools for wellness.
